Penguins Host Green Bay on Senior Day Sunday

Setting the Scene
The Youngstown State men's basketball team (18-11, 12-6 Horizon League) closes out the home portion of its schedule and honors its senior on Senior Day when it hosts Green Bay (3-25, 1-16) Sunday, Feb. 23. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center, and the game will be aired on ESPN+ and 570 WKBN.

Last Time Out
Junior Juwan Maxey scored a career-high 29 points, but Youngstown State fell to Milwaukee, 84-74, on Feb. 21 at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center. Maxey connected on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor with four 3-pointers to lead the Penguins while senior Nico Galette posted 12 points with six rebounds. Sophomore Gabe Dynes added 10 points with six rebounds and five blocked shots.
Honoring Seniors
The Youngstown State men's basketball program will be honoring four seniors playing in their final regular-season home game on Sunday. The Penguins will recognize seniors EJ Farmer, Nico Galette, Ty Harper, and Siem Uijtendaal.
Series vs. Green Bay
This is the 58th meeting between Youngstown State and Green Bay in a series dating back to 1993. The Phoenix own a 37-20 advantage in the all-time series, but the Penguins have won eight of the last 10 games. Earlier this season, Youngstown State defeated Green Bay, 73-69, on Jan. 19 in Green Bay, Wis. Last season, the Penguins defeated the Phoenix (71-59) in Green Bay, but lost (84-83) in Youngstown. Youngstown State has won five of the last six games against the Phoenix played in Youngstown.

Green Bay enters the game with an overall record of 3-25 and a 1-16 mark in Horizon League action. The Phoenix are coming off a 94-85 loss to Robert Morris on Feb. 21. Marcus Hall leads the Phoenix with 13.5 points per game. Green Bay is averaging 68.9 points per game while allowing 79.8 points per contest.
Last Time Against Green Bay
Youngstown State overcame an 11-point second-half deficit to beat Green Bay 73-69 at the Resch Center on Jan. 19. Cris Carroll set a scoring career-high with 24 points and added eight rebounds. Nico Galette had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Jason Nelson scored 11 points and dished out a team-leading five assists. Carroll had scored 20 on two previous occasions this year.

Maxey Hits Career High
Junior Juwan Maxey scored a career-high 29 points against Milwaukee on Feb. 21. Maxey connected on 8-for-13 from the field and made four 3-pointers. His 29 points are the team best this season, and they are the most points scored in a game since DJ Burns had 32 against Green Bay on Feb. 10, 2024.
Dynes Collects Career Block 150
With five blocks against Milwaukee, sophomore Gabe Dynes became the third player in program history to record 150 blocks in a career. He now has 153. Dynes also moved into fourth place on the YSU single-season blocks list with 92. He needs eight more to become the third player in school history to block 100 shots in a season. The last to do so was Damian Eargle with 102 in 2012-13.
200 3s Streak
The Penguins have made 255 3-pointers this season and extends their streak of at least 200 made 3-pointers streak to 14 straight full seasons. The streak dates back to the 2010-11 season, and does not include the COVID-19 shortened 2020-21 campaign. The 255 made 3s rank sixth on the YSU single-season list. The Penguins need three more to move into fifth on the list with 258.
