Youngstown, Ohio — Youngstown State guard Casey Santoro has been named the Under Armour Horizon League Player of the Week for leading the Penguins to a road win against Mercyhurst, the conference office announced Monday.

Santoro, a sixth-year senior from Bellevue, Ohio, tied her career high with 21 points in the victory over the Lakers. She led all players in the scoring column while shooting 6-for-11 from the field — including 4-for-6 from 3-point range — and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. She scored seven points in the first period to help the Penguins build a 16-11 lead, and they remained ahead the rest of the game.

In addition to her scoring, Santoro grabbed five rebounds and distributed two assists, going over 250 assists for her collegiate career. She carried a significant load for the Penguins, playing all but 32 seconds and leading the team in field-goal attempts.

This is the first time Santoro has been a conference player of the week in her career, which began at Kent State in the 2020-21 season and continued at Florida Gulf Coast starting in 2023-24. She was a MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week in December 2021 after recording the first triple-double in Kent State's history.

For the season, Santoro leads the Penguins with 12.6 points and 3.0 assists per game, and she has an impressive 3:1 assist-to-turnover ratio. She's also made a team-best 13 3-pointers, and she ranks third on the squad with 6.2 rebounds per contest.

Youngstown State will play a pair of Mid-American Conference opponents, starting with a home contest against Toledo at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
