Youngstown, Ohio — Youngstown State forward Sarah Baker has been named the Under Armour Horizon League Freshman of the Week for the opening week of the season, the conference office announced Monday.

Baker, a redshirt-freshman from Florence, Ky., averaged 11.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in her first two games back in action after missing the final 22 games last season due to injury. Including her five active weeks in 2024-25, this is the fourth time she has earned the Horizon League Freshman-of-the-Week honor.

Baker led all scorers with 16 points, going 7-for-11 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line, in YSU's win at North Dakota on Friday. She had 10 points in the second half as the Penguins outscored the Fighting Hawks 40-26. The 16 points tied her career high. In the season opener against Thiel, Baker was 3-for-5 from the field and scored six points while grabbing nine rebounds.

Youngstown State will play twice this week, starting with a game at nationally ranked Michigan State on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The Penguins then return home to host Bucknell inside Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center on Sunday at 2 p.m.
