The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs will return to action this weekend when they make the short trip to Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium for the Akron Zips Classic, a two-day meet on Oct. 10-11.
Last Time Out
The Penguins are coming off very respectable showings by both programs last weekend against a very strong Oakland program at Beeghly Natatorium.
The men won seven events last weekend, highlighted by two school records.
- Quinn Cynor won three individual events last weekend, including the 200-freestyle event, where he swam a program-record time of 1:36.48. Cynor also won the 50-butterfly with a time of 21.67 and the 100-butterfly with a time of 48.26.
- Rafael Serey-Cormier swept victories in the diving events, as he kicked off his collegiate career with a program-record score of 305.70 in the one-meter dive, while also winning the three-meter dive with a score of 304.20.
- Valer Kennedy won the 200-butterfly with a time of 1:48.90.
- The male relay teams also captured two event victories, as the 200-medley relay crew of Cynor, Adrian Andres Moreno, Jacob Gramer, and Noah Smith won with a time of 1:28.39, while the 400-free relay team of Cynor, Smith, Lorenz Beck, and Gramer won with a time of 2:59.80.
The women won 12 individual events last weekend vs. the Golden Grizzlies.
- Olivia Sweetman won three events, placing first in the 500-freestyle during each day (fastest time was 5:00.39), and also winning the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:52.04.
- Orla Maccines also placed first in three events, including the 100-butterfly each day (fastest time was 56.21) and also the 200-butterfly with a time of 2:04.55.
- Hannah Murray went on to claim two event victories, winning the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:03.89, as well as the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.75.
- Hanna Held won each diving event, scoring 275.93 in the one-meter dive, and 266.40 in the three-meter dive.
- Chloe Moore won the 50-freestyle with a time of 24.03.
- Derin Donmez won the 1650-freestyle with a time of 17:08.97.
Cynor and Held Recognized as Part of #HLSD Weekly Awards
Men's swimmer Quinn Cynor and female diver Hanna Held were recognized by the Horizon League during this week's installment of the #HLSD weekly awards.
Cynor was named the Horizon League Men's Swimmer of the Week for his efforts vs. Oakland, while Held was named the Horizon League Women's Diver of the Week for her performance vs. the Golden Grizzlies.
