Penguins Tussle With Tartans, Bonnies to Open Season

The Youngstown State men's tennis team opens its dual season with a pair of matches in a three-day stretch starting on Friday. YSU plays host to Carnegie Mellon on Friday at 6 p.m. and treks to St. Bonaventure for a Sunday afternoon match.
YSU returns just two players from last spring's lineup – William Rassat and Onder Balci. In the fall, those two players led the way combining to win 11 singles contests during various tournament events.
The Guins had two mid-year additions in Ethan Dasset and Mihai Haita as that duo joined six new players from the fall.
This is YSU's sixth all-time meeting against Carnegie Mellon. The Penguins lead the all-time series by a 4-1 margin, but dropped the most recent contest, 4-3, on Feb. 16, 2018.
Youngstown State has won the last 10 meetings against the Bonnies dating back to Jan. 31, 2009. YSU won the most recent contest against SBU, 6-1, on Feb. 26, 2021.
The Guins next travel to New England for matches at Bryant and Boston next week.
