Granville, Ohio - The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs concluded their final dual of the season at the Trumbull Aquatic Center against Denison University.
In the first event of the meet, the 200-medley relay, the male crew of Elliot Elmore, James Slessor, Lorenz Beck, and Jacob Gramer picked up a victory as they finished with a time of 1:29.47, just under two-tenths of a second quicker than the second place finishing team. The female team of Izzy Rossi, Oliwia Kaniak, Allison Ramirez Romero, and Miriam Frass finished second with a time of 1:45.84.
The Penguin men finished one-two-three in the 1000 free, as Poyraz San Askin clocked a time of 9:30.00 for a first-place finish, and Terin Frodyma (9:53.68) and Dominic Bono (10:06.37) finished behind San Askin to round out the top three.
In the 200 free, Olivia Sweetman achieved a third-place finish as she swam a time of 1:54.09, while Lorenz Beck led the Penguin men in the event with a second-place finish, clocking a time of 1:40.33.
In the 100 free, Jacob Gramer continued his impressive freshman season as he won the event with a time of 46.19, followed by fellow Penguin Darren Laing who finished third with a time of 46.49. Kate Wolff led the Penguin women in the event as she also finished in third place, clocking a time of 1:02.15.
Elliot Elmore notched a top-three finish in the 100 backstroke, finishing in second place with a time of 50.90.
Eloise Fisher and Gwyn Thomas each had very strong performances in the 100 breaststroke, as Fisher won the event with a time of 1:06.38, while Thomas finished in second with a time of 1:07.92.
The Penguins swept victories in the 50 breaststroke, as Oliwia Kaniak won the event for the women with a time of 28.78, and James Slessor's time of 25.70 was good enough for a victory for the men.
Miriam Frass and Valeria Sanchez Cordero each finished in the top three in the 200 butterfly, as Frass won the event with a time of 2:07.49, and Sanchez Cordero finished in third place as she clocked a time of 2:13.43. Jameson Cooke led the Penguin men in their portion of the event, as he finished third with a time of 2:00.70.
Allison Ramirez Romero and Chase Fyffe both had third-place finishes in the 100 butterfly for the Penguin men and women. Ramirez Romero clocked a time of 57.73, while Fyffe finished with a time of 51.26. Miriam Frass picked up her second victory of the meet in the 200 breaststroke as she won with a time of 2:22.47. Eloise Fisher finished third with a time of 2:26.01. James Slessor also picked up his second victory of the meet in the men's 200 breaststroke as he finished at 2:01.13.
The Penguins dominated the 50 free for both the male and female portions of the event. Oliwia Kaniak represented the YSU women with a first-place finish, finishing in 23.97. The YSU men finished one-two-three-four, as Lorenz Beck won the event with a time of 20.93, Rares Druga finished runner-up with a time of 21.04, Reid Withey finished third as he clocked a time of 21.09, and Gavin Redden rounded out the top four as he finished with a time of 21.15.
Gavin Webb and Poyraz San Askin each put together strong performances in the 500 free, as Webb finished second in 4:35.81, and San Askin finished behind him in third with a time of 4:42.27.
Jacob Gramer and Isaac Johnson finished second and third in the 100 butterfly, as Gramer clocked a time of 50.76, and Johnson finished closely behind him in 51.55 seconds.
Lorenz Beck claimed a victory in the 50 butterfly as he finished in 22.11 seconds, and he was followed by fellow Penguin Gavin Redden, who finished as the runner-up with a time of 22.70 seconds.
Hanna Held and Ellen Linscheid finished atop the leaderboard in the one-meter diving competition, as Held won with a score of 249.98, and Linscheid was the runner-up with a score of 244.58. Cody Thill led the men in the three-meter diving competition as he won the event with a score of 331.73.
Other event highlights for the women include:
- Chiara Vetter won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.33
- Oliwia Kaniak finished second in the 50 butterfly with a time of 25.63
- Miriam Frass finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.99
- Olivia Sweetman finished third in the 100 free with a time of 53.23
- Morgan Glass clocked a third-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:08.24

Select swimmers will return to the pool on Feb.7-8 to compete in the two-day Miami Classic hosted by Miami (OH) in Oxford, Ohio. The first day of competition will begin at 3 p.m., followed by the second day at 9 a.m.
