The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs return to the pool for their second consecutive week of competition as they will head to Granville, Ohio for a dual with Denison University. Saturday's meet is set to begin at 12 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Penguins are coming off a dual last weekend with fellow Horizon League school IU Indianapolis.
Poyraz San Askin and James Slessor led the men's team as each captured event victories. San Askin captured a victory in the 1650 free as he finished with a time of 15:41.03, while Slessor won the 100 breaststroke, clocking a time of 55.54. The men totaled nine finishes in the top three across numerous events but eventually fell to the Jaguars by a score of 208-73.
Although they did not capture any event victories, the women showed strong performances in multiple events, as they had seventeen swimmers and divers finish in the top three in events during the competition. The women were led by Madelyn Mahoney, who had finished in the top three in four different events. Mahoney was part of the 200-medley relay team that finished third with a time of 1:46.16, she finished third in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.81, and she also captured third-place finishes in the 50 free (24.75) and 100 free (52.09). The women were topped by the Jaguars in the overall team score, 186-95.
Scouting Denison
The Denison men's and women's swimming and diving programs are coming off a tri-meet this past Saturday as they faced off with the likes of Carnegie Mellon University and Calvin University.
The Big Red's men's and women's programs both shined, sweeping each of their respective meets. The men defeated Carnegie Mellon by a score of 266-75 and Calvin by a score of 243-96, while the women defeated Carnegie Mellon 256-60 and Calvin 248-65.
Denison's men were ranked second nationally in the latest CSCAA Division III Coaches' Poll, while the women were ranked fifth nationally.Â

Select swimmers will return to the pool on Feb.7-8 to compete in the two-day Miami Classic hosted by Miami (OH) in Oxford, Ohio. The first day of competition will begin at 3 p.m., followed by the second day at 9 a.m.
