The Youngstown State volleyball team dropped its final match of the Geri Polvino Invitational in straight sets to Eastern Kentucky on Saturday. The set scores at the Olympic Sports Training Center were 25-15, 25-22, 25-21.

Abbie Householder led the Penguins with eight kills while adding five blocks to earn all-tournament team honors for the second straight weekend. She finished EKU's tournament with 45 kills and 39 digs in 10 sets.

The Penguins struggled to get kills collectively against the Colonels, who went 3-0 at their home tournament this weekend. YSU was limited to 26 kills, and it committed 20 attack errors. Defensively, the Penguins registered eight blocks in the three-set affair while adding 49 digs. Maria Insana had a team-best 12 digs, and Householder finished with 10.

EKU had 44 kills, 18 more than the Penguins, in its 6-2 offense.

The Colonels scored six straight points midway through the opening set to take a 16-9 lead, and they went on to win 25-15. EKU then sprinted to a 12-3 advantage in the second set, and Youngstown State went on a late run to get within 24-22 behind Nyia Setla's serve.

EKU held on for the 25-22 victory, but the Penguins were able to capitalize on the momentum and took a 13-9 lead in the third after a kill from Kelsey Cooper. The Colonels went on a 9-2 run to go up 18-15, and they held the upper hand the rest of the match.

Youngstown State will play three matches in the Buffalo area next week at the Ellicott Hotels Western New York Invitational. The trip will start with a contest at Canisius on Thursday at 6 p.m.
