The Horizon League announced the 2024-25 conference men's and women's basketball schedules on Wednesday, and the Youngstown State women's basketball team will begin its 20-game league slate at home on Dec. 4.
The Penguins will play four conference games in December, three of which will come before the holiday break, eight in January, seven in February and one in March. The 2025 Barbasol Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship will begin on March 4 with first and second rounds at campus sites, and the semifinals and championship will be hosted at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum on March 10-11.
Youngstown State will begin and end its conference schedule in Beeghly Center with the opener coming Dec. 4 against Milwaukee and the finale slated for March 1 versus Cleveland State. The Penguins will also play host to Detroit Mercy on Dec. 18 before the calendar flips to 2025, and YSU will play five conference home games in January against Green Bay (Jan. 9), Northern Kentucky (Jan. 15), Robert Morris (Jan. 18), Oakland (Jan. 26) and Purdue Fort Wayne (Jan. 29).
After the home-heavy January, Youngstown State will play five of its seven games in February on the road. The lone game on Rosselli Court in the month will be against Wright State on Feb. 13 and versus IU Indianapolis (formerly IUPUI) on Feb. 15. The Penguins will play three consecutive road games to end February before hosting Cleveland State on March 1.
Youngstown State's season under first-year head coach Melissa Jackson will begin on Nov. 4 against North Dakota. That will be the first of four consecutive home games to begin the campaign in the renovated Beeghly Center. The Penguins have 10 newcomers on its 2024-25 roster and will have four new starters.
