Akron, Ohio — The Youngstown State volleyball team dropped its final non-conference road match of the season on Thursday as it fell in straight sets to Akron. The set scores from James A. Rhodes Arena were 25-18, 25-21, 25-23.

Teagan Ng led YSU's attack with 12 kills and a .270 attack percentage, and she added three aces. Abbie Householder had 10 kills to go along with nine digs, while Nyia Setla finished with a match-high 16 digs and two aces.

Isabel Schaefbauer notched a double-double with 19 assists and 11 digs, and Juliana Rivera posted 12 assists as YSU employed a 6-2 offense in the final two sets.

Lauren Baker had 14 kills on 42 attempts to lead Akron, which had a 10-kill edge and hit .302 in the match.

The Zips had 17 kills, seven more than the Penguins, in the opening set as they won 25-18. Akron used a 12-2 run after trailing 10-6.

The Penguins' only lead in the second set was 1-0, but they stayed within striking distance and tied the match at 20. The Zips scored five of the final six points of the set to win 25-21 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Penguins led 20-19 in the third when a kill by Gabriela Machin capped a 4-0 run. Machin also had a block in the run, and Ng had a kill. Ng's 12th kill of the night later tied the score at 23 before the Zips scored the final two points to finish the match.

Youngstown State will host Kent State on Friday at 6 p.m. in the Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center.
