Niagara University, N.Y. — The Youngstown State volleyball team fell in straight sets to Bucknell on Saturday in its final match at the Ellicott Hotels Western New York Invitational. The set scores from Niagara's Gallagher Center were 25-17, 25-19, 25-16.
Abbie Householder finished with 12 kills to lead the Penguins, who were coming off back-to-back victories over Canisius and Niagara the previous two days. Setter Isabel Schaefbauer had a full stat line with 22 assists, 15 digs and five kills, and Kelsey Cooper added five kills.
Bucknell recorded eight blocks to help limit the Penguins to a .095 attack percentage, and the Bison countered with a .235 attack percentage offensively. Middle blocker Sidney Shaffer registered 13 kills in 18 attempts without an error for Bucknell, which improved to 6-1 with the victory.
YSU matched Bucknell with 14 kills in the opening set, but the Bison had four aces to help propel them to a 25-17 win. The second set was tied at 16 before Bucknell went on a 9-3 surge to close it out, and the Bison used a 9-2 burst in the third to pull away.
Youngstown State's next match will be at Akron on Thursday at 6 p.m.
