
Eleven Penguins Head to NCAA East Prelims in Kentucky

The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams are set for a busy four days at the NCAA Track and Field East Preliminaries in Lexington, Ky., at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track Facility.
The men will be in action on Wednesday and Friday while the women take center stage on Thursday and Saturday.
Representing the men at the meet at Harry Barton (400m hurdles), Luke Laubacher (110m hurdles), Dorian Chaigneau (pole vault), Blake Sifferlin (pole vault), Dominic Perry (shot put), Ryan Henry (shot put) and Jakari Lomax (triple jump/long jump). Competing for the women are Erin Bogard (pole vault), Melana Schumaker (pole vault), Esther Solarin (triple jump) and Molly Radcliffe (discus).
Last year, Bogard, Chaigneau and former Penguin thrower Zach Gehm all moved onto the NCAA meet. This year's NCAA meet is June 5-8 in Eugene, Oregon.
All seven of the men will be in action on Wednesday with the pole vault, long jump and shot put finals and the first round of races in the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles set to take place.
Laubacher will run in heat four of six in the 110m hurdles starting at 6 p.m. The top three finishers in each heat and the next six fastest times advance to the quarterfinals. Barton will run in the 400m hurdles starting at 8:20 p.m. He's in heat five of six. Like the 110m hurdles, the top three finishers in each heat and the next six fastest times advance to the quarterfinals.
The long jump will feature Lomax in the first of four flights. Each athlete will get three attempts with the top 12 advancing to nationals. Lomax is one of just 12 athletes who will compete in both the long jump and triple jump.
In the pole vault, Sifferlin and Chaigneau are both in the second flight. The bar will start at 4.92m then move to 5.07m, 5.22m, 5.32m and 5.42m until 12 athletes remain. Last year, 5.30m was the minimum height to advance while Chaigneau cleared 5.40m to finish fourth.
In the shot put, Perry is in the first flight while Henry is in the third flight. Each athlete gets three throws with the top 12 advancing to nationals.
On Thursday, Bogard and Schumaker will be in the pole vault starting at 6 p.m. The duo will is in flight two of two. The bar will start at 3.80m then move to 3.95m, 4.10m and 4.20m until 12 athletes remain. The remaining 12 will advance to the NCAA meet. Last year, 4.12m was the minimum height cleared to advance.
On Friday, the quarterfinals of the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles are set to take place. Lomax will compete in his primary event, the triple jump starting at 6 p.m. He's in flight three of four. Each athlete will get three attempts with the top 12 advancing to nationals.
On Saturday, Solarin and Radcliffe will be in action. Radcliffe with throw the discus at 1 p.m. while Solarin is set to jump at 6 p.m.
Radcliffe is in flight two of three in the discus. Each athlete will get three attempts with the top 12 advancing to nationals.
Solarin will be in flight three of four in the triple jump. Each athlete will get three attempts with the top 12 advancing to nationals.
