Four Members of Women’s Swimming and Diving Program Named Academic All-District

Youngstown State student-athletes Hailey Clark, Miriam Frass, Oliwia Kaniak, and Macy Wang of the women's swimming and diving program were named to the 2023-24 Academic All-District Team, the College Sports Communicators announced on Tuesday.
Clark, an Academic All-Horizon League selection, is a junior in Communications with a 3.87 G.P.A. Clark earned a podium finish in the 1650 freestyle at the Horizon League Championships, placing third with a personal-best time of 16:59.35 to rank third all-time in program history. She also placed sixth in the 500 free with a time of 4:59.34 and finished 13th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.58. In addition, Clark was a member of the 800 free relay team that set a school record and earned a podium finish at the HL meet. Clark also qualified to compete in the 1000 free and 800 free relay at the National Invitational Championship
Frass, an Academic All-Horizon League selection, is a sophomore in Psychology with a 4.00 G.P.A. Frass became the first YSU women's Horizon League Champion since 2013, winning the 400 IM with a school-record time of 4:21.37, over three seconds ahead of the runner-up. She finished runner-up in both the 500 freestyle (4:54.13) and 1650 freestyle (16:56.27) for the second-consecutive season to deliver top-two finishes in all three of her individual events. In addition, she was a member of both the 200 free relay and 800 free relay teams that set school records at the HL meet, helping the 800 free relay team to a podium finish. Frass qualified to compete in the 500 free, 400 IM, 1000 free, and 800 free relay at the National Invitational Championship.
Kaniak is a junior studying Information Technology and owns a 3.63 G.P.A. Kaniak delivered a top-four finish in the 200 breaststroke with a personal-best time of 2:21.64 at the Horizon League Championships, the fourth-fastest mark in school history She also rounded out the top five in the 200 IM, clocking the third-fastest time in program history (2:06.42) and finished 10th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.23. She was also a member of the 200 free relay team that tied a near decade-old school record at the HL meet, clocking a 1:35.09.
Wang, who was named an academic honorable mention by the Horizon League, is a junior in Nursing with a 3.75 G.P.A. Wang advanced to the B final in all three events she competed in at the Horizon League Championships. She placed 12th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:35.92 and finished 15th in both the 200 IM and 200 breaststroke, clocking times of 2:11.14 and 2:.27.84, respectively.
