Penguins Set to Host NKU and IUPUI For Senior Weekend

The Youngstown State men's tennis team closes out its home season with matches against Northern Kentucky and IUPUI this weekend at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
Both contests will begin at 11 a.m. Prior to the match against the Jaguars on Sunday, YSU will honor seniors David Alvarez Moreno and Asier Pena Ibanez.
The Penguins are 8-9 overall and 2-3 in Horizon League play. NKU enters the weekend at 10-6 and 4-1 while IUPUI owns an 8-13 and 2-3 record. The Guins dropped 4-3 decisions to both teams on March 29 and March 30.
The Penguins are tied for third place in the Horizon League standings with IUPUI as both teams have three matches remaining. Cleveland State leads the North at 5-0 while NKU sits second at 4-1.
YSU is coming off a 6-1 victory over Chicago State last week to sweep the season series from the Cougars.
Natives of Spain, Moreno and Ibanez both joined the program in the fall of 2020. They were members of the Penguins' first-ever Horizon League regular season and postseason champion and NCAA tournament team in 2022.
Moreno has won 52 career singles matches since joining the program, including a pair of wins during the 2022 Horizon League tournament. Ibanez has won 25 singles matches throughout his YSU career.
