Calhoun Named Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Utah State

Youngstown, Ohio – Jerrod Calhoun, who has led the Youngstown State men's basketball program to unparalleled success over the last seven years, has been named the head coach at Utah State University.

During his time at the reigns of the Penguins men's basketball program, Calhoun compiled a record of 118-106, including a 98-62 record over the last five seasons. Most recently, Calhoun guided the Penguins to their second consecutive 20-win with an overall record of 22-10 in 2023-24. It marked the first time in YSU's Division I history with back-to-back 20-win campaigns. In 2022-23, Calhoun led the Penguins to a school record-tying 24 wins, the program's first regular-season conference championship, and YSU's first berth in the National Invitation Tournament.

Over the last three years, the Penguins have also won a Horizon League-best 41 conference games and a league-high 65 games overall.

"I want to thank Jerrod for the incredible impact he made on our men's basketball program, on the lives of our student-athletes, and our Youngstown community," Youngstown State Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ron Strollo said. "He and his wife, Sarah, made Youngstown their home and invested in our Mahoning Valley. He brought Youngstown State its first basketball conference championship, and our program continues its upward trajectory.  Coach Calhoun was a driving force in facilitating our upcoming Beeghly Center renovations, which are set to begin on May 6, 2024. We wish Jerrod, Sarah, and their family the best of luck at Utah State University."

Calhoun, who was hired in March 2017, was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year in 2022-23, and guided 12 All-Horizon League selections, including eight in the last three seasons.
