Highlighted by Emma Schum's one-meter zones qualifying score, the Youngstown State men's and women's diving programs impressed in their meet against Duquesne held in the Beeghly Natatorium on Saturday.
Schum scored a 266.33 in the women's one-meter dive to qualify for the 2024 NCAA Zone C Championships and win the event vs. Duquesne. Schum will join teammate Hanna Held who qualified for the platform diving event earlier this season as both compete at the zone championships on March 14-16 in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Penguins swept the diving events as Held was victorious in the three-meter dive with a score 258.23. Held also rounded out the top three in the one-meter with a score of 253.43. Natalie Weissman placed fourth in both events, scoring a 216.30 in the one-meter and a 223.58 in the three-meter. Schum rounded out the top five in the three-meter event with a score of 222.08. Dasha Toth place sixth in both events with a score of 204.53 in the one-meter and 213.98 in the three-meter.
Zachary Lao won both the men's one- and three-meter dives. He scored a 255.23 in the three-meter and a 268.50 in the one-meter. Cody Thill placed second in both events, scoring a 251.78 in the one-meter and a 238.88 in the three-meter.
The divers will be back in action at the Horizon League Championships taking place on Feb. 14-17 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. Select swimmers will compete at the Miami (OH) Classic in Oxford, Ohio on Feb. 9-10.
