Cleveland, Ohio — Cleveland State hit .325 and had two players record at least 13 kills as it swept Youngstown State's volleyball team on Saturday afternoon. The set scores at Woodling Gymnasium were 25-15, 25-11, 25-18.
Youngstown State pushed the Vikings to four sets, two of which were decided by two points, on Friday. The Penguins were led offensively by middle hitters Kelsey Cooper and Dayan Malave, who combined for 13 kills in 32 attempts. Abbie Householder and Gabriela Machin both had five kills on the pins, and Nyia Setla paced the defense with 17 digs.
Cleveland State's Liberty Torres posted 16 kills on 32 attempts without committing an error, an Nia Hall finished with 13 kills in 28 swings. That due helped the Vikings hold a 48-27 edge in kills.
The first set's margin was just 10-9 before Cleveland State closed it on a 15-6 burst. The Vikings then hit .387 and had four aces in the second set as they pulled away after the score was 13-10, and the third set was tied as late as 11-11.
Youngstown State will close out the season next weekend with a pair of matches at Purdue Fort Wayne.
