Penguins Prepped for Three-Day Magnus Cup Invitational

The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs will return to the pool this week as they will compete in the three-day Magnus Cup invitational on Thursday-Saturday at Cleveland State's Busbey Natatorium.
Last Time Out
The Penguin women are coming off a dual victory over Saint Francis on Nov. 9 at Beeghly Natatorium as YSU defeated the Red Flash by a score of 139-123.
YSU captured 11 event victories during the meet.
- Hanna Held was victorious in the one-meter dive (258.45) and the three-meter dive (300.00). Her score in the three-meter dive qualified her for the NCAA Diving Zones meet, which is set to take place this upcoming March.
- Oliwia Kaniak won the 100 breaststroke (1:05.57), 200 breaststroke (2:24.22), and the 200 IM (2:10.19).
- Miriam Frass also claimed three event victories, winning the 200 free (1:54.36), 500 free (5:10.04), and her final event victory came in the 100 free as she swam a time of 53.44.
- Olivia Sweetman placed first in the 1000 free as she swam a time of 10:36.20.
- Natalia Andres won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.46.
- Allison Ramirez Romero claimed victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.21.
The Penguin men last competed in a dual vs. Cleveland State on Nov. 2 at Beeghly Natatorium, falling to the Vikings by a score of 161-139.
YSU placed first in six events during the meet.
- The 200-yard medley relay team of Elliot Elmore, James Slessor, Lorenz Beck, and Jacob Gramer won with a time of 1:32.37.
- James Slessor claimed victories in the 100 breaststroke (56.51) and 200 breaststroke (2:05.81).
- Gavin Webb won the 500 free with a time of 4:39.83.
- Jacob Gramer captured a victory in the 200 butterfly as he swam a time of 1:56.40.
- Darren Laing won took the win in the 100 free with a time of 46.20 seconds.
Competing Schools
The four women's programs competing will be Akron, Bowling Green, Toledo, and Tulane.
The ten men's programs competing will be Ashland, Canisius, Cleveland State, IUP, Le Moyne, Niagara, St. Bonaventure, Valparaiso, Xavier, and Youngstown State.
