Youngstown, Ohio — Youngstown State's Sarah Baker has earned the Under Armour Horizon League Freshman-of-the-Week for the second consecutive week to start the 2024-25 season. The conference office announced its weekly awards on Monday.
Baker, a 6-foot-2 forward from Florence, Ky., is the first Penguin to earn the award in back-to-back weeks since Nneka Obiazor in 2020-21.
Baker averaged 5.5 points and 7.0 rebounds while playing 19.4 minutes per game in a pair of Penguins victories last week. She grabbed eight rebounds while going 2-for-2 from the free-throw line in 19 minutes in the win over St. Bonaventure on Tuesday. Against Clarion, Baker scored nine points on 4-or-7 shooting from the field and a free throw, and she added six rebounds.
For the week, Baker ranked eighth in the conference in rebounding, and she paced the circuit with four offensive rebounds per contest.
Baker is averaging 7.0 points and 6.0 rebounds this season in 18.1 minutes per game. She is shooting 52.9% from the field and 75% from the free-throw line, and she has a team-high 11 offensive rebounds.
Baker and the Penguins have two games this week. Youngstown State will host Mercyhurst on Tuesday at 11 a.m., and it will play another 11 a.m. contest at Bucknell on Saturday.
