Brooke Adkins Signs to Join Youngstown State’s Women’s Basketball Program

Youngstown, Ohio — Brooke Adkins has signed a grant in aid to continue her athletic and academic future as a member of Youngstown State's women's basketball team, YSU head coach Melissa Jackson announced on Wednesday.

Adkins is a 6-foot guard from Wayne, W. Va., who is currently a senior at Wayne High School. She is the first member of Youngstown State's 2025 recruiting class and the first high school player to sign with Jackson, who is in her first season at YSU.

"We are so excited to officially welcome Brooke to our Penguin Family," Jackson said. "From day one, Brooke was our number one. She is a winner, a fierce competitor and truly embodies our core values. Brooke is an extremely versatile basketball player. Her skill set on both sides of the ball makes her a perfect fit for our system and style of play.

"We have been very selective with this recruiting class. Our recruiting coordinator, Shayna Gore, did an excellent job identifying our biggest need. We feel Brooke will be able to make an immediate impact as well as complement the talented young players in our program."

Adkins is a three-time first-team all-state selection and a two-time Cardinal Conference Player of the Year for the Lady Pioneers. As a member of the 1,000-point club, she has led Wayne to a Final Four appearance at the West Virginia state tournament, an additional appearance at states, and two regional championships. As a junior, she averaged 15.1 points, eight rebounds and four steals as Wayne was regularly ranked among the top two teams in the state in the Associated Press poll.

Adkins plays with the West Virginia Thunder AAU program, and she helped her team to a national championship.

Outside of basketball, Adkins also plays volleyball at Wayne, where the team has been a state tournament qualifier and won titles at the sectional and regional levels. Academically, Adkins is a member of the National Honor Society and the Bio Medical Science program.
