Youngstown, Ohio — Youngstown State student-athlete Sarah Baker has been named the first Under Armour Horizon League Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week of the 2024-25 season, the conference office announced on Monday.
Baker, a native of Florence, Ky., is the first Penguin to earn the league's Freshman of the Week award since teammate Haley Thierry on Dec. 20, 2021.
Baker came off the bench to score 10 points and grab four rebounds in just under 16 minutes in her collegiate debut on Friday against Lake Erie. As YSU's first sub in the game, Baker went 5-for-10 from the field, and she added two assists and a block in her first game as a Penguin.
Baker is one of eight newcomers who made their Youngstown State debuts against the Storm at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center. She and the Penguins will continue their season-opening homestand against St. Bonaventure on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
