Giglio Collects Career High as Penguins Battle Colonials

Youngstown, Ohio — Youngstown State junior Bianca Giglio posted a career-high 13 kills, but the Penguins dropped a close three-set decision to Robert Morris on Tuesday evening. The set scores from Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center were 25-23, 25-22, 27-25.

Giglio finished with 13 kills, which was three more than her previous career high, in 38 attempts while adding four blocks. Abbie Householder led the Penguins with 14 kills, and she had a match-best 22 digs. Householder and Isabel Schaefbauer both had two aces.

Natalie Stepanovich led RMU with 13 kills and 13 digs. The Colonials had five fewer kills than the Penguins and were outhit .155-.142, but the visitors had two more blocks and an 11-6 edge in aces. RMU also had just four serving errors while YSU had nine.

The entire match was tight, and the largest lead for either team was five.

RMU got five kills from Stepanovich in the opening set, including two in the final three points as the Colonials held on for a 25-23 win. Robert Morris had five aces in the second set and never trailed in a 25-22 win.

Youngstown State built a 5-1 lead in the third set behind Householder's serve, and the Penguins remained ahead or tied until RMU took a 25-24 lead. YSU's largest lead came at 23-18 following Giglio's 13th kill, and the Colonials had four blocks during a 9-2 run to close the match.

Youngstown State will open November with consecutive home matches against Oakland on Friday and Saturday. Friday's contest will begin at 6 p.m., and Saturday's will start at 2.
