The Youngstown State swimming and diving programs were well represented in this season's first installment of the #HLSD Athletes of the Week, with three Penguins being chosen.
Oliwia Kaniak was named #HLSD Women's Swimmer of the Week for her efforts in last week's dual vs. St. Bonaventure. Kaniak was victorious in three events, finishing first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.47, first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.63, and third win of the day came in the 200 IM, where she swam a time of 2:11.06.
Staying with the women's program, Hanna Held was dubbed as the #HLSD Women's Diver of the Week for her efforts in last week's dual. Held took home first-place honors in both the women's one-meter and three-meter dives. Held scored 273.68 in the one-meter dive and 272.78 in the three-meter dive. Her score in the one-meter drive was good enough to qualify her for the NCAA Diving Zones, in which a score above the 265-point threshold is needed for qualification. The diving zones will take place this upcoming March.
Finally, Brooks Adams will represent the men's team as he also received league honors. Adams was named the #HLSD Men's Diver of the Week. Adams posted a score of 215.63 to finish third in the one-meter dive, as well as a score of 243.83 in the three-meter dive, which was good enough for a fourth-place finish.
This marks the first time that three Penguins have received weekly league honors together since January 11, 2023.
The Penguins will return to action on Oct. 4-5 as they travel to face Horizon League foe Oakland in a dual at the home pool of the Golden Grizzlies in Rochester, Michigan.
