Bowling Collects Four Wins, Sits Fourth at Destination Orlando

Orlando, Fla. — Youngstown State's bowling team won its first four matches and had an overall solid day to begin the 2024 Destination Orlando tournament. The three-day event is being held at AMF Sky Lanes.
The Penguins fired back-to-back sets over 1,120 to begin the round of five Baker total pinfall matches, and they finished their 25-game block averaging 203.8. YSU is fourth in total pins among the field of 24 teams, and it is two pins out of third and 73 pins behind second.
Jacksonville State led the field with 5,302 pins on Friday, and the Penguins handed the top-ranked Gamecocks their lone loss of the day. Vanderbilt is second at 5,167 pins, Arkansas State is third at 5,096, YSU is fourth at 5,094, and Stephen F. Austin is fifth with 5,077. All five of the top teams in the standings are members of Conference USA.
The Penguins closed their opening match against Jacksonville State with consistent scores of 235, 227, 236 and 234 to win 1,122-991. It was YSU's 12th victory as a program against a top-ranked opponent.
Youngstown State stayed hot and followed with a 257 game to start its match against Delaware State, and the Penguins beat the Hornets 1,134-917. YSU shook off a 135 game to beat Prairie View A&M 964-841, and the Penguins were back over 1,000 with a 1,028 set in a 97-pin win over Saint Anselm. YSU then ended its round on a tough pair of lanes and fell 940-846 to SFA. Both teams had their lowest sets of the day on the pair.
Youngstown State will bowl five traditional matches on Saturday beginning at 8:25 a.m.
