
Penguins Claim Third Victory in Record-Breaking Fashion at Butler Fall Invitational

Indianapolis, Ind. -- The Youngstown State women's golf team earned its third victory of the fall season in record-breaking fashion at the Butler Fall Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday from Highland Golf & Country Club.
The Penguins finished with a three-round team total of 863 to win the tournament by 12 strokes and shatter the program record for lowest 54-hole performance. YSU eclipsed the previous record of 878, which was set at the Kiawah Island Spring Classic on Feb. 24-26, 2019.
Youngstown State also set a new school record for lowest 18-hole performance with a 284 in the opening round on Monday. That performance surpassed the previous mark of 285, which was set at the Indiana State University Invitational on April 7, 2019. The Guins followed up their record-breaking round with a 290 in the second round before carding a 289 in the third and final session on Tuesday. All three team rounds rank among the top 10 18-hole performances in school history.
Neeranuch Prajunpanich finished tied atop the individual leaderboard with a three-round score of 211 (69-72-70). The sophomore fell on the third hole of a playoff for medalist honors to finish as the individual runner-up. Prajunpanich's three-round 211 ranks as the third-lowest 54-hole score in program history. The sophomore's career-low, one-under-par 69 in the first round featured 13 pars and three birdies as she shot a one-under-par 34 on the back nine.
Valentina Peña Anaya placed third with a three-round total of 213 (71-72-70). The freshman matched her career-low round with a final-round 70 that included nine pars and five birdies. Peña Anaya's three-round 213 is tied for the fourth-lowest 54-hole score in school history.
Lizzie Saur finished tied for 17th with a three-round score of 220 (71-75-74). The senior's season-low, one-over-par 71 in the opening round featured 11 pars and three birdies as she carded an even-par 35 on the front nine.
Sofia Perez Escarcena finished tied for 23rd with a three-round total of 222 (73-73-76). The freshman's career-low 73 in the first round included 13 pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 4 while her second-round 73 featured seven pars and five birdies.
Maddi Shoults finished tied for 45th with a three-round score of 225 (77-73-75). The junior's second-round 73 included 14 pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 8. Playing as an individual, Bella Saur concluded the event with a three-round 235 (82-74-79). The freshman's career-low 74 in the second session featured 13 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 10.
Butler and Marian each finished with a three-round team total of 875 to tie for second place, Marshall placed fourth with an 881 while Dayton rounded out the top five with an 882. Butler's Kelli Scheck, who finished with a three-round 211 (68-72-71), earned medalist honors on the third playoff hole over Prajunpanich.
Youngstown State will conclude its fall season on Oct. 19-20 with the Lady Blue Hen Invitational hosted by Delaware at Rehoboth Beach Country Club in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
