Tipoff Notes
The Youngstown State men's basketball team (14-6, 6-3 Horizon League) closes out its three-game road swing when it visits IUPUI, Thursday, Jan. 25. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The game will be broadcast on 570 WKBN and ESPN+.

Last Time Out
Youngstown State picked up a 105-64 win over Detroit Mercy on Jan. 20. Ziggy Reid lead the Penguins with 22 points while EJ Farmer had 18 and Brandon Rush scored 17 points. Bryson Langdon and DJ Burns added 12 and 11 points, respectively. The Penguins tied a season-high with 14 3-pointers against the Titans, and YSU's .633 field-goal percentage was the third-highest in program history.

IUPUI enters the game with a 6-15 overall record and 2-8 mark in Horizon League play. Jlynn Counter leads the Jaguars with 15.2 points per game. IUPUI is averaging 66.8 points per game while allowing 77.7 points per contest.

Series vs. IUPUI
This is the 23rd meeting between Youngstown State and IUPUI in a series that dates back to 1975. The Penguins own a 20-2 advantage in the all-time series and have won the last six games over the Jaguars. Earlier this season, the Penguins defeated the Jaguars, 75-65, at Beeghly Center on Jan. 7, 2024. Youngstown State is 8-0 in games played in Indianapolis and 4-0 in games played at Indiana Famers Coliseum.

A win over IUPUI will mark the second straight season went 15-6 to start the season. It will also mark just the fourth time since 1981-82 that YSU started a season with at least 15 wins after 21 contests.

Third-Highest Field-Goal Percentage
Against Detroit Mercy, Youngstown State connected on 63.3 percent of its shots from the field. It marked the third highest single-game field goal percentage in school history. It was also the highest field-goal percentage since 1982.

Thompson Turnin Up 
Youngstown State fifth-year senior Brett Thompson has turned up his offensive production since being inserted into the starting lineup 15 games ago. Since that time, Youngstown State owns a record of 11-4. Thompson has been impressive against Horizon League opponents averaging a team-best 15.9 points, 4.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game. Against the league, Thompson is shooting 46.4 percent from the floor and 37.3 percent from 3-point range.

Block Party
Youngstown State has been protecting the rim the season. The Penguins rank second in the Horizon League with 96 blocks and 4.8 blocks per game. Against Navy, the Penguins record 10 blocks. It marked the first time in more than 10 years the Penguins had at least 10 blocks in a game. The last time YSU had 10 blocks in a game was against Westminster on Nov. 23, 2013.
