Penguins Open Dual Season Against Niagara

The Youngstown State women's tennis team opens their dual season with a match against Niagara on Sunday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
The Penguins posted an 11-9 overall record last spring, highlighted by a regular-season and postseason Horizon League title. Niagara was 5-13 a year ago and enters the match with a 2-2 record after playing four dual contests this past fall. Youngstown State last played the Purple Eagles on Feb. 29, 2020, a 4-0 win by the Guins.
YSU returns five members for last year's squad – Julia Marko, Lili Minich, Eliska Masarikova, Line Greyling and Maria Oliveira. That group is joined by newcomers Elinor Beazley, Lorena Cedeno, Claudia Coombes and Yeseniia Ovcharova.
During the fall, Marko led the way with nine singles wins while Cedeno had eight and Ovcharova added seven. In doubles play, Ovcharova had a team-high five wins while Marko and Minich won four times.
The Guins are 23-7 all-time in the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. Last year at home, YSU posted a 7-2 mark.
YSU was last in action on Nov. 12 at the CSUN Invitational.
