Penguins Begin Play at Tom Tontimonia Invitational on Monday

The Youngstown State men's golf team will continue its fall schedule on Monday when it begins play in Cleveland State's Tom Tontimonia Invitational at Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, Ohio.
The Penguins are coming off a 13th-place finish in the Virtues Intercollegiate hosted by Miami University and Bowling Green at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio, on Sept. 25-26. Redshirt senior Dean Austalosh fired a career-best three-round score of 212 (68-73-71) to finish tied for 12th and pace YSU individually. The Campbell, Ohio, native's career-low, four-under-par 68 in the opening round featured 12 pars and five birdies.
The tournament field at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational will feature 14 other schools including Bowling Green, Butler, Cleveland State, Dayton, Detroit Mercy, Green Bay, IUPUI, Marshall, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, Ohio, Purdue Fort Wayne, Robert Morris and St. Francis.
The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Monday's first round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. while Tuesday's final session will commence with a shotgun start at approximately 9:30 a.m. The course will play approximately 6,811 yards and par is 71. Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that YSU's lineup will feature Austalosh, Justin Atkinson, Cole Christman, Ryan Sam and Jake Ryan.
Atkinson and Austalosh have competed in each of YSU's first three events this fall. Atkison is currently averaging a team-best 74.2 strokes-per-round with a low round of 68. Sam has participated in two events in 2023-24 while Christman made his season debut at the Virtues Intercollegiate. Ryan will be competing in his second tournament this fall after making his collegiate debut at the season-opening Red Bandana Invitational on Sept. 3-4.
