Penguins Go for Third Win of Fall Season at Purple Eagles Invitational

The Youngstown State women's golf team will go for its third victory of the fall season when it competes in Niagara's Purple Eagles Invitational on Sunday and Monday at Diamond Hawk Golf Course in Cheektowaga, N.Y.
The Penguins are coming off a thrilling, come-from-behind victory at the ninth annual Roseann Schwartz Invitational at Mill Creek Golf Course on Sept. 23-24. YSU charged back from five strokes back after the first round of play to defend its tournament title and secure its second win of the fall campaign. The Guins posted a 308 in the first round to sit in fifth place before responding with a 291 in the final session to storm back for a one-stroke victory over runner-up Cleveland State.
YSU's two-round team total of 599 at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational is tied for the seventh-lowest 36-hole performance in program history. YSU's second-round 291 is tied for the eighth-lowest 18-hole performance in school history. Freshman Neeranuch Prajunpanich placed third with a two-round score of 145 (73-72) in just her third collegiate event to pace the Penguins individually.
The tournament field at the Purple Eagles Invitational will feature four other schools including Le Moyne College, Niagara, Saint Francis and Siena. The teams will play 36 holes on Sunday and 18 holes on Monday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Play will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. each day. The course will play approximately 5,885 yards and par is 72.
Head Coach Nate Miklos has announced that YSU's lineup will feature Madie Smithco, Prajunpanich, Lizzie Saur, Chaela Barnett and Titita Loudtragulngam. In addition, Adena Rugola will be competing as an individual.
All six Penguins competing at the event have participated in each of YSU's first three tournaments this fall. Smithco is averaging a team-best 72.0 strokes per round through the first three events of the fall season.
