Strong Final Round Sends Penguins to Victory at Roseann Schwartz Invitational

The Youngstown State women's golf team posted a final-round score of 291 to overcome a five-stroke deficit and claim its second victory of the season on Sunday at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational at Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio.
The Penguins finished with a two-round team total of 599 after posting a 308 in the first round on Saturday. The performance is tied for the seventh-lowest 36-hole team score in program history. YSU's second-round 291 is tied for the eighth-lowest 18-hole performance in school history. The Guins entered Sunday's final session five strokes back of the leaders Cleveland State and Indiana State but were able to charge back for their second victory of the fall season.
Cleveland State finished as the runner-up with a 600 while Indiana State placed third with a 606. Bucknell finished fourth with a 615 while Detroit Mercy rounded out the top five with a 619.
Neeranuch Prajunpanich placed third individually with a two-round score of 145 (73-72) to lead the Penguins in just her third collegiate event. The true freshman's even-par 72 on Sunday featured 10 pars and four birdies as she fired a two-under-par 34 on the back nine.
Prajunpanich was one of three Penguins to finish in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard. Madie Smithco tied for sixth with a two-round total of 150 (78-72). The senior's final-round 72 included 10 pars and four birdies as she carded a two-under-par 34 on the front nine. Lizzie Saur finished tied for ninth with a two-round 151 (79-72). The junior's second-round 72 featured 13 pars and three birdies as she shot a two-under-par 34 on the front nine.
Chaela Barnett placed 18th with a two-round score of 154 (78-76). The sophomore's final-round 76 included 10 pars and a pair of birdies that came at No. 7 and No. 18. Titita Loudtragulngam finished 22nd with a two-round total of 156 (81-75). The senior's second-round 75 featured 12 pars and two birdies that came at No. 6 and No. 15.
Playing as an individual, Adena Rugola tied for 33rd with a two-round 163 (83-80). The sophomore's final-round 80 included 11 pars as she posted a one-over-par 37 on the front nine.
Detroit Mercy's Ariel Chang (73-71) and Bucknell's Sofia Nogalo (70-74) each recorded a two-round score of 144 to finish tied atop the individual leaderboard. Chang was awarded medalist honors based on the tiebreaker of lowest final-round score.
Youngstown State will continue its fall schedule on Oct. 1-2 with Niagara's Purple Eagles Invitational at Diamond Hawk Golf Course in Cheektowaga, N.Y.
