Kordupel, Kreps Named GCAA All-America Scholars

Norman, Okla. -- Former Youngstown State men's golf student-athletes Bryan Kordupel and Cade Kreps have been named Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-America Scholars for 2022-23, the organization announced on Wednesday.
To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Kordupel collects GCAA All-America Scholar honors for the second time in his career. The Boardman, Ohio, native also earned the prestigious award following the 2020-21 campaign. Kordupel was named Second-Team All-Horizon League in 2022-23 after competing in all 11 tournaments and 32 rounds with a team and career-best 72.9 strokes-per-round average. He was also named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team for the third straight season in 2022-23. Kordupel became the fourth player in program history to become a three-time all-academic honoree. Kordupel maintains a 4.00 GPA as a graduate student in the engineering management program at Youngstown State. He finished with a 3.97 undergraduate GPA as an engineering major, earning his bachelor's degree in May of 2022.
Kreps earns GCAA All-America Scholar honors for the first time after competing in all 11 tournaments and 32 rounds with a career-best 75.2 strokes-per-round average in 2022-23. The Boardman, Ohio, native maintains a 4.00 GPA as a graduate student in the Master of Business Administration program. He finished with a 4.00 undergraduate GPA as a finance major at YSU, earning his bachelor's degree in May of 2022. Kreps was also selected to the Horizon League All-Academic Team in 2022-23 for his combined performance on the course and in the classroom.
The Penguin tandem of Kordupel and Kreps was also named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District At-Large Team for 2022-23. The duo became the first student-athletes in program history to earn academic all-district honors.
