Bryan Kordupel Joins YSU Men’s Golf Coaching Staff

Former Youngstown State student-athlete Bryan Kordupel has joined the YSU men's golf program as an assistant coach, Head Coach Tony Joy announced on Friday.
"Bryan is the perfect fit to join our program this fall as an assistant coach," Joy said. He was an outstanding player and leader for us over the last five seasons, and he is very familiar with our current players as well as our upcoming schedule."
Kordupel, a native of Boardman, Ohio, participated in a total of 44 tournaments and 121 rounds for the Penguins from 2018-19 to 2022-23. Kordupel's 121 rounds played are tied for fifth in program history while his 74.9 career scoring average is tied for the fourth-lowest mark by a Penguin since 2000. He competed in all 36 tournaments and 98 rounds that YSU played over the final four seasons of his accomplished five-year career.
Kordupel was named Second-Team All-Horizon League in 2022-23 after competing in all 11 tournaments and 32 rounds with a team and career-best 72.9 strokes-per-round average. Kordupel's 72.9 scoring average is tied for the second-lowest single-season mark in program history. It also represents the lowest single season scoring average by a Penguin since Brandon Pluchinsky set the school record of 72.4 in 2015-16. Kordupel carded a career-low, seven-under-par 64 at NKU's The Jewell on April 10, 2023. The performance is tied for the second-lowest 18-hole score in YSU history.
Kordupel earned four top-five finishes and seven top-10 finishes while being YSU's top finisher in 10 of 11 events during the 2022-23 season. The fifth-year senior tied for third at the Carpetbagger Classic with a two-round score of 144 (71-73). For his efforts, he was named Horizon League Golfer of the Week on March 23, 2023. He became the first Penguin to earn weekly league honors since Pluchinsky in April of 2016. Kordupel also finished ninth at the 2023 Horizon League Championships with a three-round score of 219.
Kordupel was also named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team for the third straight season in 2022-23. He became just the fourth player in program history to become a three-time all-academic honoree. Kordupel was also named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators At-Large Academic All-District Team for his combined performance on the course and in the classroom.
As a senior in 2021-22, Kordupel participated in all 12 tournaments and 32 rounds while posting a 73.7 strokes-per-round average and a low round of 68. He recorded a 75.0 scoring average with a low round of 66 while competing in all six tournaments and 16 rounds as a junior in 2020-21. Kordupel was also named a 2020-21 GCAA Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar. He participated in all seven tournaments and 18 rounds as a sophomore in 2019-20, averaging 76.8 strokes per round with a low round of 71. As a freshman in 2018-19, Kordupel competed in eight tournaments and 23 rounds with a 77.9 strokes-per-round average and low round of 73.
Kordupel served as a Horizon League Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative from 2019-22, and he served as YSU SAAC President from 2021-22. He earned his bachelor's degree in engineering from Youngstown State in May of 2022, and he is currently working toward his master's degree in engineering management.
