Penguins Make NCAA Prelims Push at Oakland, Baldwin-Wallace

The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams will make one final push towards NCAA Preliminary selection when the Penguins send two athletes to the Oakland Last Chance meet on Thursday evening and the Harrison Dillard Twilight on Thursday and Friday.
Heading up to Rochester, Mich., tomorrow evening are women's triple jumper Nia Williams-Matthews and high jumper Lonnie Harper. Both won their first individual Horizon League Championships on Sunday at the Covelli Sports Complex.
Williams-Matthews has a season-best and school-record effort of 12.54m came early in the season at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational on April 1. Harper's best clearance in the high jump is 2.05m which came at the John Papa SRU Invitational on April 20.
Just up the Ohio Turnpike a fair number of Penguins will be looking to finish the campaign strong at Baldwin-Wallace's Harrison Dillard Twilight which is tomorrow and Friday at George Finnie Stadium.
The javelin and discus throws are on tap for Thursday. YSU's entrants include Horizon League Champions Addi Watts (women's javelin) and Zach Gehm (men's discus). Also throwing the disc are Zach Gray and Coleson Kertesz.
Scheduled to compete in running events on Friday are Keegan Barnette (steeplechase), Luke Baun (5,000m), Beau Gorby (5,000m), Ryan Meadows (5,000m), Tyler Clark (1,500m), Ty Coon (1,500m), Riley Jackson (1,500m), Malena Cybak (800m), Aiamyia Dudley (800m), Trenton Shutters (800m), Joey Stafford (800m), William Hanchosky (800m), Jahniya Bowers (200m), Dom Data (100m and 200m) and Jalen Ghee (100m).
In the field events, Dorian Chaigneau (pole vault), Blake Sifferling (pole vault), Erin Bogard (pole vault), Malena Schumaker (pole vault), Emma Etzwiler (pole vault), Dominic Perry (shot put), Molly Radcliffe (shot put), Lauren Sheehan (shot put) and Williams-Matthews (triple jump) will be competing.
The NCAA Preliminary selections will be announced on Thursday, May 18. The Prelims for the East portion of the country will be hosted by North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., this May 24-27.
This week, the Big East, Big Sky, Big South, MEAC, American, ACC, Atlantic Sun, Big 12, Big Ten, Big West, Conference USA, Mid-American, Mountain West, Missouri Valley, Ohio Valley, PAC 12, SEC, Summit League, Sun Belt and WAC are all set to host their outdoor championship meets.
