
Kordupel Finishes Ninth to Pace Penguins at Horizon League Championships

Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. – The Youngstown State men's golf team finished eighth at the 2023 Horizon League Championships at Mission Inn Resort's El Campeon course, which concluded on Tuesday.
The Penguins finished with a final total of 905 following a final-round 305. Purdue Fort Wayne claimed the title with an impressive 870 while Wright State was second (875) and Oakland was third (877).
Fifth-year senior Bryan Kordupel highlighted the Penguins' efforts. In his final collegiate round, Kordupel carded an impressive two-under par 70 to finish in ninth place, a career personal-best at the HL event. For the three-day tournament, Kordupel totaled a three-over par 219 with rounds of 74, 75 and 70. He had the fourth-lowest round of the day on Tuesday.
Opening on the back nine, he birdied No. 10 and added an eagle three at No. 14. He added six pars and one bogey on the back side shooting a 35. On the front nine, he birdied No. 1 and No. 2 to get to four-under for his round. After falling to even par through the seventh hole, he birdied No. 8 and No. 9 in his final two holes for YSU.
YSU's next three finishers were all close together on the final leaderboard – Cade Kreps, Ryan Sam and Dean Austalosh.
Kreps finished in 26th place with a three-round total of 228 (76-73-79). For his final round, he had birdies at No. 4, No. 9 and No. 14 to go with seven pars. Sam finished in 29th place with a three-round total of 229 (75-76-78). For his final round, he birdied No. 1 and had 10 pars. Austalosh finished 31st with a three-round total of 230 (79-75-76). During his final round, he had birdies at No. 9, No. 10 and No. 14 to go with nine pars.
Rounding out the finishers for YSU was Cole Christman who placed 39th firing a 237 (82-77-78). On Tuesday, he had birdies at No. 5 and No. 16.
