YSU Goes for Horizon League Title on Senior Day

The Youngstown State women's tennis team will host Oakland on Sunday morning at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. First serve is set for 11 a.m. It will be Senior Day as the program honors Cecilia Rosas and Moka Ito who will playing their final home matches for the Guins.
The Penguins (8-8 overall and 5-0 in the Horizon League) will be looking to capture their first outright Horizon League regular-season title since 2015 against the Golden Grizzlies (5-11, 1-3). Oakland plays at Cleveland State on Saturday before finishing off the weekend in Youngstown.
The Guins have been playing their best tennis in the last month. Since March 17, YSU has won six consecutive matches and is 4-0 at home.
Strong singles play has spearheaded the turnaround after the Penguins won just two of their first 10 matches. In Horizon League contests, YSU is an impressive 26-4 in singles bouts. Julia Marko, Rosas and Eliska Masarikova have all gone 5-0 while Elisa Rigazio is 4-1 and Lili Minich is 3-1. Rosas is currently on a team-best six match winning streak.
Ito and Rosas both transferred into the YSU program.
Ito spent a year at Western Kentucky and two seasons at Alabama before coming to YSU prior to the 2021-22 campaign. After sitting out a year ago, she joined the lineup this spring and has eight singles contests. Overall between the three schools she has collected 53 singles victories.
Rosas swapped out Akron blue for YSU red after the Zips cancelled their program following the COVID-19 pandemic. She was one of the best players in Akron history amounting an impressive 29 victories in just a year-and-a-half. A two-time All-Horizon League pick for the Penguins, she picked up her 50th YSU career singles win on Monday vs. IUPUI. She has a career-best 18 singles wins this season.
YSU has won 13 of the 15 all-time meetings against the Golden Grizzlies. The Guins have already wrapped up the top seed in the 2023 Horizon League Women's Tennis Championships.
