Columbus, Ohio – Youngstown State graduate student Adrian Nelson has been selected to participate in the Second Annual Classic for Columbus All-Star Game, Saturday, April 22. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. at the Schottenstein Center on the campus of Ohio State University.
The Classic for Columbus features players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) against college players from universities in the State of Ohio.
Nelson will play on the All-Ohio team coached by former Youngstown State Head Coach Jim Cleamons. Cleamons, who played in the NBA for ten seasons from 1971-1980, coached the Penguins from 1987-89. Eight players, including former Penguin Michael Akuchie, from last year's inaugural game went on to play professional basketball following their appearance.
Nelson, an All-Horizon League Third-Team selection in 2022-23, helped the Penguins to the first regular-season conference championship in program history after posting a 15-5 league record. The Penguins also tied a program record for most wins in a season after posting a 24-10 overall record.
He averaged 13.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Nelson had 318 rebounds, which were the most since 1991-92, and ranked second in the league in rebounds per game. He also ranked tied for fifth with a .506 field-goal percentage and was tied for 14th in scoring.
