Penguins Head to Bison Outdoor Classic, Tiffin Track Carnival

The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams will be in action at the Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday and Sunday while the Penguins will send a contingent of throwers to the Tiffin Track Carnival event on Friday and Saturday.
The Bison Outdoor Classic is being hosted at the Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pa., while the Track Carnival will be at Tiffin's Paradiso Athletic Complex.
The Guins will be well represented at the Bucknell meet with more than 60 athletes competing in at least one event. Action on Saturday starts at 12:30 p.m. with the discus. On Sunday, action gets underway at 10 a.m. with the 3,000m run.
At Tiffin, the hammer and the discus events start at 9 a.m. on Friday while the shot put takes center stage on Saturday bright and early at 9 o'clock as well. The men are sending seven throwers while the women will have five athletes in the attendance.
At Bucknell and Tiffin, YSU will look to build off strong performances at the Northeast Ohio Quad Meet and the Miami Alumni Invitational.
YSU claimed seven event victories (six at the Northeast Ohio Quad and one in Miami) while Jakari Lomax set the school record in the triple jump down in Miami.
At Miami, Wyatt Lefker took first place in the pole vault clearing a height of 5.25m. Winners at the Northeast Ohio Quad Meet included Weston McLain (men's javelin), Addi Watts (women's javelin), Dominic Perry (shot put), Zach Gehm (discus), Luke Laubacher (110m hurdles) and the women's 4x400m relay team.
In the NCAA rankings, Lefker is seventh in the pole vault, Lomax is 18th in the triple jump, Jahniya Bowers is 19th in the 100m dash, Tye Hunt is 33rd in the long jump, Gehm is 35th in the discus and McLain is 44th in the javelin to highlight the Guins in the top 50 nationally.
