Lefker, Chaigneau Head to Albuquerque For NCAA Track and Field Championships

Albuquerque, N.M. – Youngstown State's Wyatt Lefker and Dorian Chaigneau will compete in the pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday evening at the Albuquerque Convention Center. The Penguins' pole vault duo will be in action starting at 8 p.m. Eastern Time/6 p.m. Mountain Time.
Lefker and Chaigneau are competing at the NCAA Division I Indoor meet for the first time in their careers, but both have championship-level experience entering the competition.
Lefker, who won the Horizon League Championship in his last meet, participated in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past June where he finished 22nd. Chaigneau, who placed second at the HL Championships, has been part of two Division II Indoor meets winning the title in 2021 and placing fourth in 2022.
The progressions for the event are 5.31m, 5.41m then 5 centimeters moving forward. The finals will be contested in one flight.
Both Lefker and Chaigneau enter the competition with personal-best and school-record marks of 5.51m which came back in February. They are the only Horizon League athletes competing at this year's meet.
The Penguins will take on a talented field in the event. Leading the field is defending national champion Sondre Guttormsen of Princeton. Guttormsen, who won last year's title with clearance of 5.75m, has an NCAA-leading mark of 5.90m entering this year's championships. He won the European Championship in the event this past weekend.
Other members of last year's top 10 returning the finals are Stephen F. Austin's Branson Ellis (fifth), South Alabama's Kyle Rademeyer (sixth), Clayton Simms (eighth) of Kansas and BYU's Caleb Witsken (10th).
