Oxford, Ohio - The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming programs set numerous personal-best times in their strong outing at the Miami (Ohio) Classic held at the Nixon Natatorium.
Sophomore Zachary Chesman picked up an event victory and a runner-up finish. He clocked a personal-best time of 49.96 in the 100 fly to win the event. He also set a personal record in the 50 free with a time of 21.31 to place second.
Chesman also picked up a fourth-place finish in the 100 free with another personal best, swimming a 46.83.
Sophomore Kyndall Hindman earned the victory in the 400 IM with a time of 4:48.35. Hindman was also fourth in the 200 fly, clocking a 2:13.26.
The Penguins had numerous top-five individual performances. Senior Jackson Shellogg finished the meet with two fourth-place finishes. He clocked a 17:18.55 in the 1650 free and a 1:50.80 in the 200 free in his top-five outings.
Junior Phillip Miller picked up two fifth-place finishes, clocking a 17:25.94 in the 1650 free and a 1:51.16 in the 200 free. Senior Lucas Duarte finished fifth in the 100 back with a personal-best time of 52.21.
Freshman Zoe Gallagher picked up a fifth-place finish in the 200 fly, clocking a 2:15.81. Freshman Justin Hyacinthe clocked a 59.99 in the 100 breast to finish fourth, and freshman Nathan Johnson finished fifth in the 100 free with a time of 49.69.
Overall, the Penguin men finished the meet in second with 367 points while the women earned a third-place overall finish with 145 points.
Miami University (Ohio) won the classic for both the men and women with 1353 and 1211 points, respectively.
Up next, the Penguins will be back in action at the highly anticipated Horizon League Championships beginning on Wednesday, February 15 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
