Penguins Win Nine Events in Loss to St. Bonaventure

St. Bonaventure, N.Y. - The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs won nine events but fell to St. Bonaventure by a combined score of 276-188 at the Reilly Center Pool on Saturday.

The men were defeated by the Bonnies 122-101 while the women lost 154-87.

Youngstown State swept the diving events with freshman Hanna Held earning victories in both the one- and three-meter dives. Held scored a 232.65 in the one-meter and a 253.73 in the three-meter in her impressive victories.

In the women's diving events, YSU finished 1-2-3 with Ellen Linscheid placing second in the one-meter with a score of 231.75 and third in the three-meter with a score of 202.13. Dasha Toth finished second in the three-meter, scoring a 227.18, and third in the one-meter with a score of 195.90.

Brooks Adams swept the men's diving events with scores of 247.73 in the one-meter and 234.53 in the three-meter.

The men opened up the swimming portion of the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay, clocking a 1:33.29 to finish a second ahead of the Bonnies. The winning relay team was Rares Druga, James Slessor, Aleksa Radenovic, and Gavin Redden

Individually, Radenovic and Slessor each earned an event victory for the Penguins. Radenovic clocked a 1:55.06 in the 200 IM to win the event while Slessor swam a time of 56.94 to win the 100 breast. Radenovic also finished second-place in the 100 fly, clocking a 51.76.

For the women, Hailey Clark and Oliwia Kaniak picked up individual event victories. Clark clocked an 11:02.58 to win the 1000 free, finishing over 10 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Kaniak finished first in the 100 breast, swimming a time of 1:08.18. Kaniak also placed second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.50.

Gavin Webb picked up two-second place finishes, clocking a 9:53.93 in the 1000 free and a 4:49.85 in the 500 free. Freshman Kyle Mizell placed second in the 200 free with a time of 1:45.91. In addition, Gavin Redden clocked a 46.43 for second place in the 100 free.

The Penguins will return to action next weekend at the Akron Zips Classic on October 13-14 at the Ocasek Natatorium in Akron, Ohio.
