
Penguins Close Out Fall Season at Bucknell Invitational

The Youngstown State men's golf team will close out its fall season with the three-day Bucknell Invitational, which is scheduled to take place Sunday through Tuesday at Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa.
The Penguins are coming off a 12th-place finish in Cleveland State's Tom Tontimonia Invitational at Lakewood Country Club on Oct. 2-3. YSU's three-round team total of 857 at the event ranks as the sixth-lowest 54-hole performance in program history. In addition, the team's final-round 280 is tied for the sixth-lowest 18-hole performance in school history.
Justin Atkinson finished tied for eighth with a three-round score of 208 (69-70-69) to earn his second top-10 finish of the season. The senior's three-round 208 is tied for the third-lowest 54-hole score in program history. Cole Christman tied for 24th with a three-round 212 (70-75-67), and his four-under-par 67 in the final session matched the lowest round of his career. Ryan Sam matched the lowest 54-hole score of his career with a 217 (73-73-71) while freshman Jake Ryan carded a career-low 73 in the second round as part of a career-best three-round 226 (76-73-77) in his second collegiate event.
The tournament field at the Bucknell Invitational will feature 18 other teams including Bucknell, Canisius, Colgate, Cornell, Holy Cross, LIU, Merrimack, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, Ottawa, Rider, Robert Morris, Saint Francis, Saint Joseph's, Saint Peter's, Towson, Villanova and Wagner.
The teams will play 18 holes on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in the three-day, 54-hole event. Tee times for the first two rounds will begin at 9 a.m. while Tuesday's final round will commence with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The course will play approximately 6,224 yards and par is 70. Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that YSU's lineup will feature Atkinson, Christman, Dean Austalosh, Sam and Jacob Sylak. In addition, Michael Porter will be competing as an individual.
Atkinson and Austalosh have competed in each of YSU's first four events this season. Sam and Sylak have each participated in three tournaments this fall while Christman and Porter have each competed in two events. Christman is averaging a team-best 72.8 strokes per round while Atkinson owns a 73.0 scoring average heading into the Bucknell Invitational.
