Swimming and Diving to Host Niagara and St. Francis Sunday

The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs are set to host Niagara and St. Francis at the Beeghly Natatorium in their first home meet of the 2023-24 season on Sunday.
The meet is set to get underway at 1 p.m. The women will double dual Niagara and St. Francis while the men will face off against Niagara.
The Penguins faced the Purple Eagles and Red Flash in 2022, traveling to Niagara Falls, N.Y. for the meet. The women defeated St. Francis (170-124) but lost to Niagara (167-133) in their double dual while the men were victorious over Niagara (173.50-126.50).
Last Time Out
The Penguins were last in action at the Akron Zips Classic on October 13 and 14. The men's team finished second at the meet and earned 12 event victories while the women's squad placed fourth overall.
The men's team showed their depth by sweeping the two medley relays at the meet. Soma Albert, James Slessor, Aleksa Radenovic, and Gavin Redden were the winning Penguins on both the 200 and 400 medley relay squads. The Penguin men also won the 200 and 400 free relays. The four Penguins on both winning freestyle relays were Rares Druga, Radenovic, Darren Laing, and Gavin Redden.
Slessor and Albert led the Penguins individually with two victories apiece. Slessor swept both the 100 and 200 breaststroke while Albert swept the 100 and 200 backstroke events.
Four other Penguins earned event victories at the Zips Classic: Gavin Webb, Redden, Druga, and Radenovic. Webb won the 500 free while Redden finished first in the 100 free. Druga earned his individual victory in the 50 free while Radenovic added an individual victory to his four relay wins as he finished first in the 200 fly.
In the diving events, Zachary Lao led the men with a second-place finish in the three-meter dive with a score of 235.40 and a third-place finish in the one-meter, scoring a 258.75. Lao was named the #HLSD Men's Diver of the Week following his performance.
Hanna Held led the women's divers, placing second in the three-meter and third in the one-meter with scores of 264.15 and 236.70, respectively.
On the women's side, the swimmers earned eight top-10 finishes in their outing. Miriam Frass led the women's squad with three top-seven finishes, placing third in the 1650 free, sixth in the 400 IM, and seventh in the 200 breast. Frass earned the #HLSD Women's Swimmer of the Week award after her impressive outing.
Hailey Clark picked up two top-seven finishes of her own, rounding out the top-five in the 1650 free and placing seventh in the 500 free. Chiara Vetter finished ninth in the 100 breaststroke while Oliwia Kaniak was 10th in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events.

The Penguins will take the short trip up north to Cleveland, Ohio to face Horizon League opponent Cleveland State on Saturday, November 4. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. at the Busbey Natatorium.
