Four Penguins had at least nine kills, and the Youngstown State volleyball team hit .264 to sweep St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon at the Billiken Invitational in St. Louis. The set scores were 25-16, 25-17, 25-20.

YSU had 47 kills in 106 attempts, and it had 26 more kills than the Tommies, who dropped to 2-4. The Penguins, who are now 3-3 overall, also had three more aces and 20 more digs.

Kiyah Franklin was very efficient with 11 kills on 15 attempts with just one error, and Paula Gursching matched her in the kills column. Josi Borum added 10 kills, and Abbie Householder contributed nine. Borum also had 20 assists for a double-double, and Housholder registered 16 digs to tie for match-high honors.

There were five ties and four lead changes in the early going of the opening set before a 3-0 run behind Gursching's serve put YSU ahead 8-5. The Penguins led the rest of the set, and they scored eight of the final nine points.

Borum then had five kills and Householder dug nine attacks in the second set as YSU never trailed to take a 2-0 lead in the match. St. Thomas' final lead of the afternoon was 10-9 in the third set, and YSU went on a 5-2 run late to pull ahead for a 20-16 lead.

Youngstown State will play three matches in Buffalo next week at the Western New York Invitational.
