Khuanrudee Earns Medalist Honors as Penguins Win Roseann Schwartz Invitational

Puthita Khuanrudee earned medalist honors to lead the Youngstown State women's golf team to a 24-stroke victory at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational on Tuesday at Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio.
The Penguins finished with a two-round team total of 585 to finish 24 strokes ahead of the runner-up Bellarmine. YSU's two-round 585 is tied for the fourth-lowest 36-hole performance in program history. The Guins fired a single-round team score of 291 in the second and final round on Tuesday to pull away for their second victory in as many tournaments. Youngstown State also claimed a 28-stroke victory at the season-opening YSU Kickoff on Sept. 3. YSU's second-round 291 is tied for the sixth-lowest 18-hole performance in school history.
Khuanrudee finished the tournament at one under par with a career-best two-round score of 141 (72-69) to earn medalist honors for the fifth time in her career. The fifth-year senior's two-round 141 ranks as the third-lowest 36-hole in program history. Khuanrudee's two-under-par 69 on Tuesday matched her career-low round, which was set when she won medalist honors at the season-opening YSU Kickoff. With her victory on Tuesday, she becomes just the eighth golfer in YSU history to collect at least five career wins.
Khuanrudee was one of five Penguins in finish in the top 10 of the individual standings. Lizzie Saur placed fourth with a two-round 145 (69-76). The sophomore held the individual lead following day one of the event after carding a career-low, two-under-par 69 in the first round. Titita Loudtragulngam finished fifth with a two-round score of 146 (74-72). The junior's one-over-par 72 on Tuesday matched the lowest round of her career.
Playing as an individual, Danae Rugola finished tied for sixth with a two-round total of 149 (75-74). In just her second collegiate tournament, true freshman Chaela Barnett finished eighth with a two-round 150 (77-73). Barnett's two-over-par 73 on Tuesday marked the lowest round of her career.
Madie Smithco (79-74) and Adena Rugola (74-79) each tied for 11th with a two-round score of 153. Smithco matched her low round of the season with a final-round 74 on Tuesday. Playing as an individual, Rugola fired a career-low 74 in the first round on Monday while playing in just her second collegiate event. Christina Lewis finished tied for 22nd with a two-round 160 (80-80).
In the Division I portion of the tournament, Bellarmine was the runner up with a two-round team total of 609 while Cleveland State placed third with a 618. Mount St. Mary's finished fourth with a 619 while Detroit Mercy rounded out the top five with a 631. In the Division II portion of the tournament, Walsh was the top finisher with a 623 while Ashland placed second with a 631.
Youngstown State will continue its fall schedule on Saturday when it begins play in the Nittany Lion Invitational hosted by Penn State at the PSU Blue Course in University Park, Pa.
