Record-tying heat and a prolonged power outage didn't deter golfers from an enjoyable day on Wednesday at the 2022 Youngstown State University Penguin Club Scholarship Golf Outing presented by State Farm. The outing was also supported by A.P. O'Horo, Compco Industries, Johnson Controls and R.G. Steel.

The temperature reached 93 degrees, which tied the record high in Youngstown for June 15, and the heat index was much higher with plenty of sunshine at Youngstown Country Club. There was also a power outage in the area that lasted more than three hours, which didn't affect play on the course but caused some minor adjustments to events in the clubhouse.

There were more than 220 golfers competing on Wednesday with 21 flights in the morning and 35 more foursomes teeing off in the afternoon. Following the 18 holes in the afternoon, golfers enjoyed a dinner in the clubhouse and a chat with YSU head men's basketball coach Jerrod Calhoun.

In addition to the presenting sponsors, the Penguin Club would like to extend special gratitude to Gia Russa and John Zidian Co., Giannios Candy Co., Choolaah Indian BBQ, DiRusso's Sausage, Superior Beverage, Youngstown Country Club and Pepsi Beverage Company.

The Farmers National Bank foursome of Brandon Pluchinsky, Dom Yazbek, Rob Leonard and Mike Marzich had the lowest round of the day with a 12-under-par of 59 that was carded in the morning flight. The Hively Construction group of Bryan Horne, Gregg Strollo, Zack Mansky and Ayden Richmond had the lowest score in the afternoon with a 60. The Allstate - Rocco Nolfi team of Nolfi, Scott Krichbaum, Rob Iberis and Frank Hierro also had a 60 in the morning flight.
