Nikki Saibene broke Youngstown State record for career runs batted in as the Penguins defeated Robert Morris, 4-2, on Saturday evening at the YSU Softball Field.
Saibene, who has 131 career RBIs, went 1-for-2 and drove in
Hailey Roach with a single to left-center field in the top of the third inning.
Youngstown State, who has won four straight games, improves to 30-22 overall and 15-9 in Horizon League play while Robert Morris falls to 27-17 overall and 16-7 in league play.
Senior
Elle Buffenbarger picked up her 20
th win of the season with a complete-game five-hitter and nine strikeouts. Buffenbarger became the first YSU pitcher to post consecutive 20-win seasons.
The Penguins jumped in front early on
Conchetta Rinaldi's run-scoring single in the top of the first inning.
YSU added two runs in the top of the second on
Grace Cea's run-scoring ground out and a Colonials error.
The Colonials cut the lead to 3-1 with a run in the bottom of the second before Saibene's record breaking single gave the Penguins a 4-1 lead in the third.
Robert Morris added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Youngstown State and Robert Morris conclude the series with a doubleheader, Sunday, May 8. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at the YSU Softball Field.
