The fifth-seeded Youngstown State baseball team will face second-seeded Oakland on Thursday in game four of the 2022 Horizon League Baseball Championship at Nischwitz Stadium in Dayton, Ohio.

Youngstown State advanced into the double-elimination portion of the tournament with a 6-0 victory over fourth-seeded Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday. It marked YSU's first victory in the Horizon League Baseball Championship since 2018. The Penguins improved to 20-34 overall to achieve back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 2005-06.
The Penguins and Golden Grizzlies will be meeting for the sixth time this season. YSU is 3-2 against Oakland on the season. The Golden Grizzlies won two of three games in Rochester, Mich., on April 1-3 before the Penguins swept a doubleheader at Eastwood Field on April 22 with a pair of 2-1 victories.
The two teams will meet in the Horizon League Baseball Championship for the first time since 2018. The Penguins earned a 4-1 victory in the most recent postseason meeting, which also took place at Nischwitz Stadium.
Sixth-seeded Northern Kentucky upset third-seeded UIC 3-2 in the other first-round elimination game on Wednesday. NKU advances to face top-seeded Wright State in game three of the tournament on Thursday at 10 a.m.
The winners of games three and four on Thursday will advance to play each other on Friday at noon. The losers will face off in an elimination game on Thursday at 6 p.m.
