Penguins Beat Milwaukee 6-1; Set Up HL Title Match Next Week

The Youngstown State women's tennis team beat Milwaukee 6-1 on Saturday afternoon to set up a winner-take-all match for the Horizon League's regular-season title next Saturday against Cleveland State.
By beating the Panthers, YSU improves to 11-8 overall and 5-0 in Horizon League play while Milwaukee falls to 7-13 and 2-3. The Penguins play host to the Vikings next Saturday and the winner earns the regular-season title.
YSU jumped out to the early lead winning the doubles point. At No. 3, Maria Oliveira and Elisa Rigazio scored the last four points in a 6-2 win. At No. 1, Cecilia Rosas and Julia Marko scored the final five points for a 6-2 win as well.
In singles play, YSU won the first three matches in straight sets before taking two of three that went to 10-point Super Tiebreakers.
At No. 1 singles, Rosas picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Greta Carbone. At No. 2, Julia Marko beat Mayya Perova by a 6-1, 6-4 score. At No. 3, Rigazio beat Nikki Milner, 6-1, 4-0 (retired).
In the super tie break matches, YSU won at No. 5 and No. 6 and had a match point at No. 4. At No. 4, Jessica Stanmore dropped a tough 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11-9) decision to Avery Durham. At No. 5, Lili Minich battled back for a 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) over Babette Burgersdijk. At No. 6, Oliveira stepped in and picked up a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) over Anika Tylek.
