The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs will compete at the three-day Miami (OH) Invitational beginning on Thursday at the Nixon Aquatic Center in Oxford, Ohio.
Prelims will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Finals will take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Last Time Out
The diving team last competed at the three-day West Virginia Invite that concluded on November 19.
Sophomore Simon Iwanonkiw was the Penguins' top scorer in the men's one-meter and three-meter dives, with scores of 237.65 and 235.25, respectively. Freshman Zachary Lao led the way in the platform dive, finishing fourth and scoring a 219.00 to break the YSU record.
Kayla Wrasman was YSU's top finisher in the women's three meter with a score of 199.95 while Tess Weiskopf led the Penguins in the one-meter, scoring a 221.40. Freshman Natalie Weissman scored a 165.25 to finish eighth in the platform dive and acted as the Penguins' top scorer.
In the diving team events, the YSU women's squad made up of Ellen Linscheid, Emma Schum, and Weissman finished sixth with a score of 220.30, and the men's squad of Iwanonkiw, Lao, and Brooks Adams finished fourth in the team event with a score of 220.15.
The swimming programs were last in action in their impressive home victories over conference foe Cleveland State. Alongside the diving squad, the women earned 12 event victories while the men earned nine.Â
The women defeated the Vikings by a score of 199-94. Freshman Miriam Frass continued her impressive season earning three individual event victories in the 200, 500, and 1000 free. She finished first in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.36. She clocked a 5:10.64 in the 500 free and swam a 10:47.13 in the 1000 free in her victories.
Oliwia Kaniak finished first in both breaststroke events winning the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.91 and the 200 breast with a time of 2:26.44.Â
Anna Kozinska, Allison Ramirez Romero, Jordan Truelsch, and Macy Wang also picked up individual victories for the Penguins. Kozinska was first in the 100 back with a time of 58.93 while Truelsch touched first in the 200 back with a time of 2:11.62. Ramirez Romero swam a 59.93 to win the 100 fly, and Wang clocked a 2:11.12 in her victory in the 200 IM.Â
The men earned the victory over Cleveland State, 167-127. Sophomore Aleksa Radenovic won three individual events: the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 200 IM. He swam times of 49.00 and 1:48.38 in the 100 fly and 200 fly, respectively. In his win in the 200 IM, he clocked a 1:53.45.
Freshman James Slessor won bon both the 100 and 200 breast with times of 56.32 and 2:07.05, respectively. Rares Druga also earned an individual event victory, finishing first in the 50 free with a time of 20.93.
Following the swimming and diving programs' impressive victories over the Vikings, they swept the HLSD Athlete of the Week Awards. Radenovic earned the men's swimmer of the week award while Frass earned the women's swimmer of the week nod. Iwanonkiw earned the men's diver of the week honor while Wrasman earned the honor for the women.

The Penguins will send some swimmers to Biscayne Bay, Fla. to compete in the CSCAA Open Water National Championships on Sunday, December 18.
The men's 5k will kick off the morning at 8:30 a.m. followed by the women's 5k at 10 a.m.
