Malek Green Scores 1,000th Career Point in Loss at Navy

Annapolis, Md. -- Malek Green scored the 1,000th point of his career and ed five players scoring in double figures with 16 points, but the Youngstown State men's basketball team dropped ann 80-67 decision to Navy on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Hall.

The Penguins fall to 4-2 overall while the Midshipman improve to 4-1.

Also scoring in double figures for the Penguins were Shemar Rathan-Mayes with 15 points, Brandon Rush with 13, Dwayne Cohill with 11 and Adrian Nelson had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Youngstown State shot a season-low 38 percent from the field while Navy connected on 59 percent from the floor and made 10 3-pointers.

The Penguins jumped out to a 15-6 lead less than five minutes into the game, and led 17-9 before the Midshipman used a 15-0 run to take a 24-17 lead.

After a 3-pointer by Rathan-Mayes sliced the deficit to four, Navy scored 11 of the next 13 points to boost its lead to 13 points, 35-22, with 5:34 to go.

Youngstown State used a 9-0 run keyed by a jumper by Cohill, a layup and 3-pointer by Rathan-Mayes and a pair of free throws by Cohill to get back within four, 35-31, with 3:14 remaining.

Navy, however, scored 10 of the next 14 points to take a 45-35 lead into the lockerroom.

The Penguins cut the deficit to seven, 47-40, to start the second half, but the Midshipman scored 18 straight points to extend the lead to an insurmountable 25-point lead, 65-40, with 11:48 to go.

Youngstown State visits Western Illinois, Saturday, Nov. 26. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. Eastern in Macomb, Ill.
